Mothers’ Day Ideas for Expecting and New Mothers
Ah... the lines touched our hearts. Didn’t they touch yours too? ‘Mother’ - an emotion, a beat of our heart, the first ray of dawn, and the calming coolness of dusk, for some, a mother is like our softest pillow waiting on the bed on which we will rest our heads after spending a tough day, and for some mother means home, the safest place in the world. O Mother! You are a blessing, you are great. And, you are, the angel of our lives.
Dear mommies, Mothers’ Day is knocking on the doors! And as you gear up to begin your new journey namely motherhood, we are here to help you make your day special.
The Background and History of Mothers’ Day
In ancient times, festivals were held honoring the mothers and mother goddesses. A festival was held by the Phrygians for Cybele, who is known as the ‘Great Mother of Gods’, and so did the Greeks for Goddess Rhea. The Romans too, likewise honored their mother god. In India, the Bengali community celebrates ‘Durga Puja’ with extravaganza, a festival where Goddess Durga, also known as ‘Ma Durga’ is worshipped.
Towards the Middle Ages, people, who had moved to faraway places, were allowed to visit their home parishes and their mothers on Laetare Sunday, which is the fourth Sunday of Lent following a custom. This custom became “Mothering Sunday” in 16th century Britain. The family would cut and share the ‘mothering cake’ brought by the eldest son or daughter of the family. The primary purpose was to celebrate the day in the honor of the mother, with the family reuniting and the children taking care of all the household chores giving their mother a much-deserved break. At times, the mother would also attend special church services during the day. ‘Refreshment Sunday’ was another name for ‘Mothering Sunday’, and even the fasting rules were relaxed for the day.
‘Mother's Day’, as we know it now, was founded by Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia, whose mother had created women's associations in order to motivate friendship and good health.
This year, Mothers’ Day will be observed on the 8th of May.
Mothers’ Day Ideas for Expecting Mothers
As your little munchkin rests inside your tummy, you experience a plethora of emotions. If the excitement on the one hand keeps you super active throughout the day, the nervousness on the other hand, at times snatches away your night’s sleep. But with Mothers’ Day ringing the bells, it’s time to cherish yourself and the amazing world you will step in. And, Team Takecare Mom is at your service to make sure that your Mothers’ Day remains memorable to you forever because for some of you, it’s your first ever Mothers’ Day, and it has to be special. Here are a few ideas for you to make your special day extra special.
1. Spend Time With Your Baby
Your baby has changed your world in ways you never imagined before even landing on this earth. And you can’t wait to hold your munchkin in your hands and shower it with your love. This Mothers’ Day, take out time to spend with your baby. Talk to your little angel - share your hobbies, deepest desires, and strongest passions, with your baby. Let your baby know you more and more. Say loving words to it, touch your belly, and feel your baby’s movements. Pregnant mothers who communicate with their babies have said how the practice feels magical time and again.
2. Share Your Good News With Others ( If you already haven’t before)
Share your happiness with others, if you haven’t already. Let the world know that a little angel will be lighting up your life soon. Happiness amplifies when shared. Laugh with others. Celebrate the news, and your journey together with your loved ones.
3. Talk To Your Mom
A mother is a daughter’s best friend. Talk with your mommy. Share your feelings with her. Ask her to tell you stories of her pregnancy. Maybe, go out on a lunch date with her. Get tips from her about pregnancy. All these days you were alien to what your mom felt and experienced. But now as you are a to-be-mommy, it’s time that you get enlightened with valuable words from the granny of your baby. And, don't forget to take pictures of this special time, with all three of you together! (Well almost!)
4. Plan a Mothers’ Kitty Party
Call your fellow to-be moms and moms and enjoy together. Spend a good, quality time together, sharing your thoughts and ideas, supporting each other, knowing each other’s journeys and stories, and just having fun. It’s a perfect occasion for you to celebrate your motherhood.
5. Write A Letter to Yourself
Make yourself a card, and pen down a letter jotting down all the things you would want to say to yourself after you become a mother or even your present self. It’s a one-to-one conversation with your own self that will be precious and will remain close to your heart forever.
