Plunging into lifestyle changes (Diary Page 4)

Sameer had just returned from a work trip to Delhi and all he wanted to do was unwind while watching the next episode of ‘Suits’ on Netflix. But I had to have this important conversation with him... About my visit to Dr. Mehta and his recommended lifestyle changes.
After persuading him, and with great reluctance, he switched off the TV. He was just expressionless and silent for the whole time that I was debriefing. It appeared that he was taking for granted all the sacrifices that I would have to make along the way.
I was not willing to give him any convenient escape and was ready for an argument right away. Just then, cutting my monologue and taking all the attention to himself he got down on his knees from his couch potato position. The next few words that came from his mouth took me by complete surprise. “We are in this together. I am ready to do whatever it takes to make sure that we are bringing up a healthy child. After all, the baby will be our joint responsibility.” Holding my hands, he looked into my eyes promisingly, for what seemed like an hour.
We agreed to do some added research and share our findings of the lifestyle changes which Dr. Mehta had thrown light upon. Indirectly, that was my cue to end the conversation. Sameer quickly immersed himself back in the 5th episode of Season 5, where Harvey was continuing his session with Dr. Agard.
Let me tell you, coming from a 35-year-old...It's never too late to make lifestyle changes that will improve your health for conception. As I started my research, I was lost in the maze of knowledge on the internet. But unlike other random surfing, this was the first time I felt the urgency to act upon it.
Although the dope was immense on the internet, what helped me was to club all the info into these common themes.
      1. Exercise and physical activity
      2. Nutrition and supplements
      3. Toxin-free lifestyle
      4. Emotional wellbeing

I will pen down more of my findings as I continue my research. From taking vitamins and eating a balanced diet to initiating moderate physical activity, from limiting caffeine intake to taking better rest, I had slowly started making some essential lifestyle changes as we were gearing up for a baby. But at this stage, the most significant aspect that I needed to do according to my body type was to lose weight! Dr. Mehta’s words were still echoing in my head, “Having a healthy body weight can improve your chances of getting pregnant significantly. Losing a few kgs can reduce the chances of health issues and resulting complications. Plus, it will play a huge role when the time comes to push and deliver your baby.”
I made a mental note to meet the dietician to make sure I lose a few kilos early on.
